Power Inverter, DC to AC AH630R Users Guide CAUTION: Be certain that product hookup/usage does not interfere with driving in any way. Some states prohibit the use of A/V equipment while driving. This RCA brand Power Inverter lets you operate AC-powered electronic devices rated up to 300 Watts of continuous power*, such as TVs, VCRs, Video Games, Camcorders, and Notebook Computers from the 12-volt DC power supplied by your car, boat, or RV. This RCA-brand Power Inverter provides two AC outlets wherever you need one by converting the 12-volt DC (direct current) supplied in your vehicle to 110-volts AC (alternating current) found in standard household AC outlets. The AH630R also provides a USB outlet, allowing it to serve as a USB power adapter as well. The USB power port provides up to 1000mA at 5V DC current. IMPORTANT: Check that the inverter power is large enough to cover the required wattage of your electronic device you want to connect. Safety Features • Low voltage alarm – alarm sounds if input voltage drops below 11.0 volts • Low voltage shutdown – unit automatically shuts down if input voltage drops below 11.0 volts to prevent unexpected dead car batteries • Automatic short-circuit detection and shutdown • Automatic overload detection and shutdown • Thermal protection sensor—shuts the unit down if it becomes too hot • Green power-on LED Connecting the Inverter: IMPORTANT NOTE: Most vehicles come equipped with a 15-amp or 20-amp fuse to the cigarette lighter. To determine the wattage capacity of your cigarette lighter outlet, multiply the amperage rating for your fuse by 12 (volts x amps = watts). For example: 12 volts x 20 amp fuse =240 watts. Connecting equipment with a combined wattage rating that exceeds the capacity of your cigarette lighter outlet may cause your vehicle’s cigarette lighter fuse to blow. Use the supplied direct battery connection adapter in these cases. For your safety and continued fi re protection, never replace a fuse with one of a higher amperage rating than the original fuse. A. Connecting equipment that is within the capacity of your cigarette lighter outlet: 1. Connect the cable with the cigarette plug on one end by matching the red and black wires to the red and black terminals* 2. Plug the cigarette lighter plug into the cigarette lighter outlet in your vehicle. 3. Turn the on/off switch on the Power Inverter to the “on” position. 4. Plug the device you wish to use into the AC outlet on the Power Inverter. 5. Turn the power switch of the device on. 6. Use the device as you normally would. B. Connecting equipment that exceeds the capacity of your cigarette lighter outlet. 1. Connect the cable with the two battery clips on one end by matching the red and black wires to the red and black terminals.* 2. Be sure the on/off switch on the Power Inverter is in the “off” position, then connect the black alligator clip to the negative(-) terminal on your vehicle’s battery. 3. Connect the red alligator clip to your battery’s positive (+) terminal. 4. Follow steps 3-6 above. *Incorrectly attaching the cables may damage the unit. Such damage is not covered by the warranty. INSTRUCTIONS FOR USING THE USB POWER PORT After connecting the inverter with either the cigarette lighter plug or battery clips, insert an appropriate USB charging cable (not included) for the device you are trying to power into the USB power port on the front of the inverter, the USB power port will provide 5 volts DC at a maximum of 1000 mA of current, you may use the USB power port and the 120 VAC output from the inverter at the same time. NOTES: Depending on your vehicle, you may need to turn your ignition switch to the “on” position to provide power to the cigarette lighter outlet. ALWAYS turn the power of a connected device off BEFORE starting your vehicle. Never use a surge protector or power strip with the Power Inverter. If an extension cord is required, use only an extension cord that is rated for the wattage of the connected device. There is a fuse in the cigarette lighter plug to prevent excess power draw, through the cigarette lighter outlet. If this fuse blows, unscrew the tip and replace it with a standard automotive (glass) fuse of equal ampherage. Never replace the fuse with a fuse of a different rating. Using non-equivalent fuses may result in damage to your equipment or the Power inverter and will void your warranty. It is common for the Power Inverter’s casing and cigarette lighter plug to become hot while in use. Always place the Power Inverter in a well-ventilated area where air can fl ow freely to disperse the heat. Use caution when handling the Power Inverter after being used. lf the Power Inverter becomes too hot, it will shut down. Allow the Power Inverter to cool adequately before reconnecting. Disconnect the Power Inverter from its power source when not in use. Some electronic devices, such as TVs, require high Starting currents. If the device doesn’t immediately start, press the power switch of the device on and off 5 times until the device comes on, then release the switch. lf the device does not come on after 5 times, it cannot be used with this Power Inverter. Be sure the combined power consumption (measured in watts) of all devices connected to the Power Inverter does not exceed the rated continuous power output of the Power Inverter. The red LED will light under the following conditions • Low voltage • Excessively high voltage • Overheating • Overloading beyond capability of the inverter This Power Inverter is designed for use with a 12-volt DC negative ground system. Never use this product with a 6- volt or 24-volt DC system or a positive ground system. Improper use of this Power Inverter can cause property damage, personal injury, and/or loss of life. Do not use this Power Inverter in a location that is near fl ammable materials or where fl ammable fumes may accumulate. WARNING: DO NOT USE FOR MEDICAL OR OTHER LIFE SUPPORT EQUIPMENT OR OTHER HIGH RISK ACTIVITIES. * Performance issues may arise if your device requires more than 300W of continuous power. 12 Month Limited Warranty Audiovox Electronics Corporation (the “Company”) warrants to the original retail purchaser of this product that should this product or any part thereof, under normal use and conditions, be proven defective in material or workmanship within 12 months from the date of original purchase, such defect(s) will be repaired or replaced (at the Company’s option) without charge for parts and repair labor.
