Owner’s Manual We’d like to take a moment to thank you for purchasing the Stereo Shotgun Microphone CS-50. Before using this unit, carefully read the section entitled: “IMPORTANT NOTES.” This section provides important information concerning the proper operation of the unit. Additionally, in order to feel assured that you have gained a good grasp of every feature provided by your new unit, this manual should be read in its entirety. The manual should be saved and kept on hand as a convenient reference. Copyright © 2005 ROLAND CORPORATION All rights reserved. No part of this publication may be reproduced in any form without the written permission of ROLAND CORPORATION. ■ IMPORTANT NOTES • Howling could be produced depending on the location of microphones relative to speakers. This can be remedied by: 1. Changing the orientation of the microphone(s). 2. Relocating microphone(s) at a greater distance from speakers. 3. Lowering volume levels. • Protect the unit from strong impact. (Do not drop it!) • Do not open or perform any internal modifications on the unit. • Never use or store the unit in places that are: • Subject to temperature extremes (e.g., direct sunlight in an enclosed vehicle, near a heating duct, on top of heat-generating equipment); or are • Damp (e.g., baths, washrooms, on wet floors); or are • Humid; or are • Exposed to rain; or are • Dusty; or are • Subject to high levels of vibration. • When using the microphone with the stand recommended by Roland (ST- 210 or ST-259), make sure the legs of the tripod are opened wide enough to keep the equipment from falling over. The stand must be carefully placed so it is level and sure to remain stable. • For everyday cleaning wipe the unit with a soft, dry cloth or one that has been slightly dampened with water. To remove stubborn dirt, use a cloth impregnated with a mild, non-abrasive detergent. Afterwards, be sure to wipe the unit thoroughly with a soft, dry cloth. • Never use benzine, thinners, alcohol or solvents of any kind, to avoid the possibility of discoloration and/or deformation. WARNING • Keep the included Screw Adapter in a safe place out of children’s reach, so there is no chance of them being swallowed accidentally. ■ FEATURES • Shotgun microphone enables single-unit stereo acquisition • Compact and lightweight for superior portability, perfect for field recording • Two-position switch for wide stereo pickup (WIDE ST) or exceptional directivity (FOCUS) • Includes low end roll-off (high-pass filter) switch (cutoff frequency: 80 Hz) • Condenser microphone (requires 11 to 52 V DC phantom power) * Supply from plug required for both left and right channels ■ OPERATION 1. Connect the XLR connector (5-pin) to the microphone. 2. Connect the other ends of the cable to the inputs of the unit you use, such as mixer. 3. If you wish to install the microphone to a microphone stand, use the supplied mic holder. If the mic holder does not fit the stand, try exchanging the screw adapter. (U 5/8, W 3/8) ■ LOW-CUT SWITCH Cuts lower-range portions of the audio. Cutoff frequency is 80 Hz. Switch to “LO CUT” to cut audio at 80 Hz and lower frequencies. The low end is not cut when this is switched to “FLAT.” ■ DIRECTIVITY SWITCH Switches the directivity of the stereo mic. In the “WIDE ST” position, the mic switches to a wide stereo pickup pattern. Switching to “FOCUS” raises the sensitivity at the front of the mic, increasing the directivity. ■ PIN ASSIGNMENT The pin assignment for XLR type connectors is as shown below. Before making any connections, make sure that this pin assignment is compatible with that of all your other devices. ■ POLAR PATTERNS ■ FREQUENCY RESPONSE ■ MAIN SPECIFICATIONS Type .......................................................................................................Condenser Frequency Response .....................................................................50—20,000 Hz Output Impedance.......................................................................................200 Ω Polar Patterns................................................................................Cardioid/FIG-8 Sensitivity ................................................................-36 dB (0 dB=1 V/Pa, 1 kHz) Dimensions (diameter × length) ......................................................21 × 195 mm Weight..............................................................................................................83 g Accessories Connection cable ............................................................................................1 Wind screen ....................................................................................................1 Carrying case ..................................................................................................1 Screw adapter (5.8"–27, 3/8"–16) ..................................................................1 Mic stand ........................................................................................................1 Mic holder ......................................................................................................1 Camera shoe mount adapter ...........................................................................1 * In the interest of product improvement, the specifications and/or appearance of this unit are subject to change without prior notice. 195 mm 21 mm MICROPHONE CONNECTION CABLE GNDMID + SIDE - 21 3 GNDMID + SIDE + 21 3 LEFT (GRAY) RIGHT (RED) LO CUT FLAT WIDE ST FOCUS MEMO LO CUT FLAT WIDE ST FOCUS WIND SCREEN LOW-CUT SWITCH DIRECTIVITY SWITCH XLR TYPE CONNECTOR (5-pin) CONNECTION CABLE XLR TYPE CONNECTOR (3-pin) XLR TYPE CONNECTOR (3-pin) LEFT (GRAY) RIGHT (RED) MIC HOLDER MIC STAND SCREW ADAPTER (5/8"—27, 3/8"—16) CAMERA SHOE MOUNT ADAPTER CS-50E.qx 05.6.6 6:14 PM ページ 1
